JDM Engines
The term JDM is an acronym for the Japanese Domestic Market. In Japan, the emission standards are much more strict as compared to other countries, making cars with as low as 30 thousand miles to fail the shaken which is a name given to the Japanese emission test. It means that the engine of the said car will need some major engine work to bring it up to standards. Is the JDM Engines Replacing the American motors? In Japan, auto repairs are costly, partly because fewer cars needed repairs as they are turned in early for the new car. Making mechanics charge more for repairs in Japan because of the less number of vehicles that need repairs. Interestingly, this makes JDM engines collected from a large amount of cars combined with plenty of other components that have low mileage to be shipped to America. However, before these cars are shipped, they are disassembled into subcomponents which are packed and then sent to America where it is considered a low mileage engine. Making it possible for the JDM engines to flood American market because in the US the emission standards are not strict as in Japan. JMD Motors Once these motors hit the US, they are examined and converted to the American emission codes and sent to the most qualified engine recyclers. Another way of getting a low mileage used engine in America is to find an engine from a crashed car. Apparently, these crashed cars are many but not enough to meet the engine demand. In this situation, people would go for the JDM engine which is cheaper because of its low mileage with America not being strict in their emission standard. Conclusively, while many of the cars that are found in the United States are also popular in Japan, they often have different parts and equipment on them. Because of the increasing level of emission standardization between each manufacturer; American, European and the Asian division's parts from Japan can be easily used on cars in the US and vice versa. Some of these Japanese parts look different from their American counterpart, and they use different emission matrices which make some Japanese pieces to have a better performance and have an excellent efficiency if used on an American car. However, if you are looking to make your car look different from that of everyone else or you wish to give it a boost of performance, the right JDM engine parts may be precisely what you need.
